PETALING JAYA: Former national athlete and coach Ishtiaq Mubarak, ex-Olympian and Sportsman of the Year in 1976, passed away at 9.55 Friday morning after a fall at his home in Hulu Kelang, at the age of 65. Ishtiaq whose full name is Ishtiaq Ahmad Mubarak Ahmad, was a big sporting star in his heyday in the 1960s and 1970s.
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 — Former national athlete Ishtiaq Mubarak died at his home in Hulu Kelang this morning. He was 65. His wife Shamimi Selvarani Abdullah said Ishtiaq died at 9.55am. He also leaves two daughters. Ishtiaq had won fame for the country at the SEA Games, Asian Games and the Olympics.
